McDowell house and an Unknown grave

Today our adventures took us to Danville, KY. We went in search of the home of Dr. E. McDowell. Dr. McDowell became the first surgeon to ever perform a successful abdominal surgery, when her removed a 22 pound tumor from a woman. The surgery occurred in the early 1800's, was approximately 25 minutes long and was done with no pain killers or anesthesia of any kind.
The majority of the house is in its original condition. We were even able to stand in the guest bedroom, which is where the surgery was performed. The kitchen table was brought into the room and placed in front of a window. It is amazing to think about how far medicine has come.
After that, we went looking for an unknown grave that is in the Weird Kentucky book. After stopping into a gas station and getting directions from a local, we finally found the grave. Another Weird adventure that we can mark off in our book!
That was about the most exciting part of our day, other than taking a trip to Pilot and getting some soda and scratch tickets. It looks like the rain isn't going to stop anytime soon, so here's to hoping that doesn't put a damper on our adventures!
Take care!
