Rainy day!

It seems like the majority of our adventures, require us to be outside. So, when the weatherman predicted a 30% chance of rain, we weren't sure if our day would be successful. But, we decided we would go ahead and try anyways.
Our first destination was a place called Lavender Fields. We set the GPS for "avoid freeways" (our favorite setting), and 3 hours later we arrived at the home of a lovely woman in Brooksville, KY. Unfortunately, when we began our tour of the "hills" we realized it should have more aptly been call the "hill" of lavender. We learned that the lavender suffered a really cold winter, and due to that, has yet to bloom. So, in all, there were about 10-15 plants that actually had lavender on them. it would have been wonderful to see the whole hill in bloom, but it was a good experience.
After leaving the lavender hill, we traveled through a couple of towns that are mentioned in our Weird Kentucky book. Lena even went into a gas station to ask if any of the locals had heard of the things mentioned in the book. Sadly, no-one could confirm the stories, but at least we tried!
As we traveled on, the rain began coming down in buckets. We thought about turning the car around and heading back, but in the end decided to push on and try finding one more thing from the book.
Lena found a story of an old abandoned hospital in Maysville, KY. After traveling down some crazy roads and hills, we finally got to the town, and it was absolutely beautiful. Maysville has a beautiful historic section with cobblestone streets, murals, and a waterfront park. Unfortunately it was raining, so we couldn't exactly get out and walk around, but we did finally find the abandoned hospital. The rainy atmosphere really made for some great pictures.
After that we decided we would head back and again took the long way. We ended our day by cooking a great dinner and relaxing while watching some tv. Right before we were ready to lay down, we heard a scratching at the window. Amazingly, Pooper dog came right in when we opened the door. It was the first time we got her in the house when we were here alone.
So that was our exciting Sunday. We decided Monday would be a good day to sleep in. Not sure exactly what today will bring, but we will be sure to let you know.
Till then...
-Rhonda and Lena
